This museum is owned by Mr. James Key, and was the brainchild of his father Wesley Key, who is sadly no longer with us, but who,
we are sure, would be proud of the way in which the museum is evolving
The Museum was opened at this site in 1954 when the engines
were moved here from North Walsham where the engine collection as it was then
was previously housed, and it was in this year also that the first engine, a
Marshall was purchased.
The Museum houses what is believed to be the largest private collection of steam engines in the UK. Many of the engines
housed here are still in good working order.
The Museum employs only one member of stall, other then that all work is
carried out entirely by volunteers, who give up their free time in order to
maintain the engines & museum.Enthusiastic
Volunteers are always welcome to help with the preservation of engines and
the daily running of the museum from June to September, so if you are
interested please contact James Key at Strumpshaw Hall, Strumpshaw, Norwich,
NR13 4HR or telephone 01603 713392.(after 6.00pm)
